Authors NoteThis is the second book in the IF I BREAK series. I would highly suggest reading the series in order. The first book in the series is currently free.
Lauren Brooks fell in love with Cal Scott at 21, married him at 22 and had her heart broken at 23 when he walked out of their marriage. At 25, while raising their daughter on her own, Lauren is finally moving on with her life…until she learns the reason for Cal's abandonment. The walls she had carefully built around her begin to collapse.
The day she meets Chris, all those feelings she thinks she has bottled up tightly come spilling out. She can’t afford to give in to her heart’s desire again. Love nearly broke her once, and her daughter doesn't need two broken parents.
Christopher Scott is in love and newly engaged to Jenna, who saw him through an illness he didn’t think he could survive. He’s finally settling into the life he’s always wanted, and he’s making plans he only dared to dream before now.
That’s when a woman named Lauren arrives on his doorstep.
She’s intriguing, beautiful and, try as he might, he can’t stay away. The closer he gets to her, the more his rock-solid plans begin to crumble. All he knows is that Lauren is the missing piece to a puzzle he must solve. For him to put all the pieces in place, he’ll have to follow his heart, and that might cost him everything...
Almost Broken If I Break #2 edition by Portia Moore Romance eBooks
First of all, the way Chris handled the situation he found himself in left me gnashing my teeth and wanting to wallop him a good one. I know it is not his fault, he can't help himself and all that jazz, but the way he let Jenna treated Lauren was just very annoying. He also strung both women along till the end of this book. He found out he was married via his alter, and he has a daughter. He should have put an end to his engagement to the hellhound from hell named Jenna until he either get a divorce, or get well. No, he wanted to eat his cake and have it (typical man), till the very end. Then we have a cliff hanger. I hate 'hanging from a cliff'. There are several books that I have even forgotten I needed to look for the sequel. There was also a twist in this book that should have been explored more. In fact it was a biggy. Lauren was also very weak in this book. She shouldn't have gone to Chris' parents home. They either want to know her daughter or not. She put herself in a vulnerable position by being in their home. I know love sometimes make people helpless, but, hey, sometimes you need to take your respect from people. Own it.
As much as I wanted to give up on this indecisive ending, I also want to know what happened to Lauren and her daughter. So, yes I will read the next book.

Almost Broken If I Break #2 edition by Portia Moore Romance eBooks Reviews
I can honestly say even with a few errors in typo I am spellbound to hold my breath and read until my eyes hurt. This story is unlike anything I have read. I feel like I am hanging off the edge of a cliff. Very addictive so now I am hooked. Dearest Portia Moore you have a talent to grab a hold of ones heart. The love for stories is a readers dream to be pulled in. Thank you
I took my time with the first book, because I wanted to savor the story. It was so amazing that I immediately purchased the second book and read it in two days. It has been a while since a book has held my attention at such great lengths. I almost felt like I did back in high school, when I would take my book out during math and try to hide it under my desk and read it.
I love the alternating perspective of Lauren and Chris. I love the mystery and range of emotions displayed by all characters. The character development is superb. I have just purchased the third book so that I may finish this wonderful trilogy.
Portia Moore is an amazingly gifted writer. I can't wait to read her other books.
Completely and Utterly OBSESSED with this series. The motha effin cliffhanger though. How can you do that to us Portia, and leave us waiting until Spring 2015!! I swear, you have officially become one of my favorite authors.
Almost Broken was even more than I expected. I loved how in detail it went about D.I.D. That's not really a common disorder, so to put it out there for readers and make a hell of an amazing story line with it takes talent!
Cal..Chris.. Poor Lauren! My heart just breaks for her, I swear. I want to just rip her out the book. What she has experienced is beyond heartbreak and pain. Loving two men but in reality he's the same person physically with dual personalities who appear and disappear randomly and then they don't even know their doing this.
I loved each and every second of this book. Wouldn't had changed it one bit.... except if Lauren could kick Jenna's ass some point in the series, that'll be wonderful !!!!
Way to go Portia!!!!!!!!
This book is wonderful. Bringing in Chris's POV is wonderful. Lauren is struggling, but you have seen her journey in this bizarre world. With Chris, you get to see the opposite of Cal. This story is able to make you see why Cal and Chris need each other...what makes both men part of a greater whole. Chris is really sweet, but he is a people pleasing push over. Cal is a confident, assertive, sexy man, but he is a selfish douche bag too. Both personalities have pros and cons, but if they would integrate you would have a well balanced Prince for Lauren. You like both of them. You want to see them work things out and be a great man for Caylee.
Chris's fiance you kind of hate. At one point, I did wonder how many pricks would fit in one story plot.
I did at times feel like the big secrets were being stretched in order to justify a 3rd installment, instead of wrapping up long plots. I didn't care for that much, but I still really, really enjoyed this book.
Goose bumps. Chills. Crying. Stomach dropping. Heart breaking. I do not think a series of books has ever made me feel so emotional.
Lauren- where do I start? I could not feel any worse for this poor girl. She is empty and so so very broken. Living life holding on to a memory while she raises her daughter and tries to do the right thing. She never feels as if she is good enough
Chris- mister "too" nice guy. It's sickening how Straight and righteous he is. He is sweet but he is no Cal. he is constantly giving off mixed signals
Cal-mr dark and "not too" nice guy. Comes and goes as he pleases totally screwing Lauren over.
Chris and Cal drive me nuts, in a good way. The real star here is Lauren and her severely intense emotions. But I love that she chugs along and sucks it up for her daughter.
To me this book couldn't be more perfectly written. The back and forth and indecision wasn't overly done. Everything happened at the Perfect time. Every word though or spoken was emotional. I cried AGAIN multiple times throughout this book. Her feeling of being unwanted and trying to figure out where she would fit in was so realistic and pulled at my heart strings.
Portia you are wrecking my psyche!!!!
I loved that this book is told from dual points of view. I felt bad for Lauren in this book. Nothing like mourning a man who is still physically alive but doesn't know you. New characters are introduced - I love Chris's mom Gwen. She is like super mom! I like Chris's BFFs Aiden and Lisa. Didn't care much for his fiancee Jenna or his dad Will. Chris kind of annoyed me in this book. His inability to make a real decision got on my nerves quick. He came off as a nice guy with zero backbone. He kept flip flopping between his feelings for Jenna and his feelings for Lauren. The ending was another cliff hanger but did not have the shock value that the first book did.
